Where Did Corn Chips Originate?
Corn chips originated in the late 19th century in the United States, with recipes using cornmeal as the main ingredient. The snack was initially called “Saratoga Chips,” after their place of origin in Saratoga Springs, New York. This version of the famed chips were originally made by hand and were small, thin pieces of fried cornmeal. While they were popular, they didn’t become a household item until Fritos released its first product in 1932.
