Margaritas are believed to have originated in Mexico, with the earliest known mention of the drink coming from a December 1953 edition of Esquire magazine. The classic margarita recipe is made with tequila, triple sec and lime juice served over ice. To make an original margarita:
- Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes
- Add 2 ounces of good quality tequila
- Add 1 ounce of triple sec
- Add 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- Shake until chilled
- Rub a slice of lime around the rim of your glass and dip in salt
- Strain contents into glass
- Garnish with a lime wheel
