Margaritas are believed to have originated in Mexico, with the earliest known mention of the drink coming from a December 1953 edition of Esquire magazine. The classic margarita recipe is made with tequila, triple sec and lime juice served over ice. To make an original margarita:

  • Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes
  • Add 2 ounces of good quality tequila
  • Add 1 ounce of triple sec
  • Add 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Shake until chilled
  • Rub a slice of lime around the rim of your glass and dip in salt
  • Strain contents into glass
  • Garnish with a lime wheel
