A rice ball is a popular snack food in many parts of the world, most notably Japan and Italy. It is made up of cooked rice that has been formed into a small round or oval shape and may contain various fillings such as seaweed, fish flakes or pickled plum. Rice balls are an integral part of both Japanese and Italian cultures, where they are traditionally served as snacks or packed in school lunches. In Japan, they are known as “onigiri,” while in Italy they are called “arancini.”
