Here’s a simple and delicious chocolate cupcake recipe! It’s perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
For the cupcakes:
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
- 1/2 cup (120ml) hot water or coffee (coffee enhances chocolate flavor)
For the frosting:
- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 1/2 cups (300g) powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup (50g) cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream or milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Make the Cupcakes
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Stir until just combined.
- Mix in the hot water or coffee—this will make the batter thinner but helps create a moist cupcake.
- Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let them cool completely.
2. Make the Frosting
- In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low to avoid splatters.
- Add the heavy cream, vanilla, and salt, then increase the speed to high and whip until light and fluffy.
3. Assemble
- Once the cupcakes are cool, pipe or spread the frosting on top.
- Optionally, top with sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
Enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate cupcakes! 🧁
