Here’s a classic recipe for a green bean casserole—perfect for holidays or a comforting side dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups green beans (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for added flavor)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup fried onions (French’s or similar)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Green Beans:
    • If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and cut them into 1- to 2-inch pieces. Blanch them by boiling for 3-5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
    • If using frozen green beans, thaw them by microwaving or running under warm water, then drain.
  3. Make the Casserole Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and soy sauce (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Stir in half of the fried onions and add the green beans.
  4. Assemble and Bake:
    • Pour the mixture into a baking dish (about 9×13 inches).
    • Bake for 25 minutes, then stir the casserole and add the remaining fried onions on top.
    • Bake for another 5-10 minutes, until the onions are golden and the casserole is bubbling.
  5. Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly, then serve warm.

Enjoy your green bean casserole!
