Where did Chocolate Cake come from?

The invention of chocolate cake is credited to American inventor George Washington Clayton in 1828. He created the recipe by combining flour and cocoa powder in equal parts and adding beaten eggs, milk and shortening. The resulting cake was found to be quite delicious!
